Mother Marcela Runcan in visitation

Mother Marcela Runcan Visits the Sisters in Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province, Fox Chase Manor

On March 18, Mother Marcela Runcan arrived in the United States from Rome for a ten-day visit.  Upon her arrival she was warmly welcomed by the Fox Chase community of Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great. She immediately embarked on the main purpose of her visit, which was to oversee the smooth transition of the Basilian Sisters from Middletown, New York to Fox Chase. In addition to meeting with Mother Georgeann, Mother Bernadette and Mother Teresa, Mother Marcela also visited with Mother Marie Rita Zucchetto at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

On March 25, 2022, the Feast of the Annunciation, Mother Marcela, along with Sister Joann, Sister Dorothy Ann, Sister Frantsyska, and Sister Dia Zahurska, heeding a call from His Holiness Pope Francis who called for the consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Sacred Heart of Mary, attended a Mass at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. Most Reverend Bishop Borys Gudziak concelebrated and gave the homily.

During her ten-day visit Mother Marcela also travelled to Uniontown to visit with the Sisters in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Province. In Philadelphia, she attended several events, including a Divine Liturgy at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. She also enjoyed lunch and conversation with His Grace, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak; took part in an interdenominational prayer service at Holy Redeemer Motherhouse; and was a beautiful presence that brightened the lives of the Fox Chase Sisters and the Nuns who are part of the contemplative branch of our Order.

The Fox Chase community bid a fond and grateful farewell to Mother Marcela on March 29, 2022.
