Vows

When you have the Lord such immeasurable Beauty, Goodness, Wisdom let the joy that is in Him
suffice for you.
(St. Basil: Homily 15 on Psalm 32)

We, Sisters of St Basil consecrate ourselves to the Lord God, one in the Holy Trinity, by a vow of
chastity, poverty and obedience as a sign of renunciation of worldly glory, possessions
and sinful
desires.

CONSECRATED CHASTITY
St. Basil speaks of chastity as a requirement and a sign of love. We consecrate ourselves to the Lord

God, one in the Holy Trinity,
with the vow of chastity. Liberating the human heart, Chastity leads us
to the highest levels of love, which unite us to Christ in full communion of love and service in his

Church.

We are witnessing to the reality of the Heavenly Kingdom. The fullness of our intimate relationship

with Jesus Christ overflows upon all the faithful
confirming the reality and power of God’s personal
love for his people.

POVERTY
Living simply, we avoid undue concern for material things. We treat the goods of the earth

respectfully, sharing our material goods and spiritual experiences, talents and inspirations, apostolic

ideals and charitable service, with others.

Poverty of spirit consists in constantly reminding ourselves that we entered this world possessing

nothing, stand before our heavenly Father daily possessing nothing, and leave this world possessing

nothing. God is the true wealth of the human heart.

OBEDIENCE
“To do your will, O my
God, is my delight and your law is in my heart.” (Psalm 40:89)
We vow obedience totally dedicating our will to the will of the Father, through His Son, as revealed

to us through the Holy Spirit. By this vow, we obligate ourselves to obey lawful superiors in all

matters related to our rules and the common welfare. We each engage in dialogue with others in

order to discover the Father’s will. Community life is the privileged place in which to discern and

accept God’s will, and to walk together with one mind and one heart.
